ONOMO Hotel Dakar
We loved the small details that set ONOMO Hotel Dakar apart from the business hotels...
Iris Hotel occupies a clifftop above Toubab Dialaw, a fishing village turned artists' retreat about thirty minutes south of Blaise Diagne International Airport, and the setting does most of the persuading before a guest even checks in. The property steps down the cliff face toward a private stretch of beach, with gardens and a seminar wing tucked behind, and an upstairs lounge bar positioned squarely for the sunset. It's a hybrid by design, built as much for a conference crowd as for a beach weekend, and that duality shows in the mix of business facilities and leisure amenities sitting side by side. One reviewer noted the finishes don't quite match the site's ambition, which tracks: this is a place you book for the view and the water, not the marble.
What earns it a place on our list is the combination few properties this close to the airport manage: a genuine clifftop position, direct beach access, and a full leisure set, pool, hot tub, fitness room, rather than just a pool and a prayer. Sixty-five rooms keep the property from feeling like a convention center despite the seminar capacity for a hundred guests, and the apartment and Executive Suite options give longer-staying guests room to spread out. It's a hotel that understands its two audiences and doesn't make either one feel like an afterthought.
Toubab Dialaw has quietly become one of the more interesting stops on Senegal's Petite Côte, known for its artist residencies and a cliffside character unlike the flatter beach towns further south. The Popenguine nature reserve and the Accro Baobab Adventure park are both a short drive away, and Diamniadio's new business district is close enough for a day meeting without committing to a stay there. Being ten minutes from the airport is the real trump card: a property with this much sea view rarely sits this close to a runway.

Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: the upstairs lounge bar at sunset
Dining: restaurant serving Senegalese, African, and European cuisine, plus pool and beach bars
Amenities: pool, hot tub, fitness room, private beach, seminar facilities
Attractions: Popenguine nature reserve, Accro Baobab Adventure, Diamniadio business district
The King Room is the compact entry point at 216 square feet, built for a short stay rather than a long one. The Superior Double and Junior Suite add space without changing the formula much, each with a private balcony facing either the ocean or the garden below. The real upgrade is the Duplex Apartment at 323 square feet or the Executive Suite at 431, both suited to a week rather than a weekend, and both still carrying the same sea-facing outlook that makes the standard rooms worth booking in the first place.
The grounds do real work here. A swimming pool and a hot tub sit above the cliff line with the ocean as backdrop, and a staircase leads down to the private beach for anyone who wants sand rather than tile. A fitness room covers the mornings, and a children's playground means the beach-and-pool combination works for a family trip as easily as a couples' weekend.
Rates start from around $127 a night for the simplest room, climbing toward roughly $150 for an apartment, breakfast included. Check-in runs from noon and check-out from 1pm, an unusually late pair that rewards a slow beach morning. Pets aren't allowed, and the seminar wing means the property can run busier than its beach-resort feel suggests during conference season, worth checking before booking a quiet weekend.
