ONOMO Hotel Dakar
We loved the small details that set ONOMO Hotel Dakar apart from the business hotels...
This hotel occupies one of the more unusual addresses on Dakar's Corniche Ouest: a five-star property built directly into the Sea Plaza shopping mall, so a guest can step from an ocean-view room into air-conditioned retail without crossing a parking lot. It's an odd pairing on paper, mall and seaside resort, but in a city where errands and leisure rarely sit this close together, it works more often than not. The building leans into contemporary lines rather than colonial references, with 234 rooms and suites stacked toward the water and an infinity pool positioned to make the most of the view. It has operated under different names over the years, Corniche hotels in Dakar tend to, but the format and the address have stayed constant.
What earns this one a place on our list is range. A Superior room at 27 square meters covers a short business trip without ceremony, while a two-bedroom apartment at 266 square meters, with its own terrace and sea view, handles a family or a longer stay without anyone feeling cramped. The infinity pool and the pool bar give the property a genuine daytime center, not just a lobby to pass through, and three separate restaurants mean dinner doesn't default to the same menu every night. It's the kind of flexibility business hotels rarely bother building.
Fann and the Corniche Ouest put this hotel closer to Dakar's museums and university quarter than its downtown ministries, and the walk along the coast road is one of the better ones in the city. The Théodore Monod African Art Museum and Village des Arts are both a reasonable taxi ride away, and the Monument de la Renaissance Africaine is close enough to see from the higher floors. The Sea Plaza mall downstairs covers groceries, pharmacies, and a quick coffee without ever stepping outside, a genuine convenience on days when the Corniche heat doesn't invite a longer errand.

The room matrix here is unusually wide for a single property. Superior rooms start at 27 square meters with garden or sea views, Premium rooms add a private balcony, and Junior Suites step up to 58 square meters with the same sea-facing outlook. At the top, one- and two-bedroom apartments run from 168 to 266 square meters with full terraces, essentially a serviced residence with hotel service attached. A Royal Suite at 150 square meters splits the difference for travelers who want scale without committing to a full apartment layout.
L'Avenue serves Mediterranean cooking with a deliberate Senegalese accent, Galuchat runs an open-grill menu for anyone who wants something simpler, and the Onyx Bar and Pool Bar split the evening between a proper cocktail list and a daytime drink by the water. Running three kitchens under one roof is more ambitious than most Dakar hotels attempt, and it means the restaurant choice changes by night rather than by necessity.
Blaise Diagne International Airport is close to an hour away, so factor the drive into any arrival plan; there's no listed shuttle. Meeting space here runs to roughly 2,000 square meters, which pulls in a steady conference crowd, so a quieter stay is more likely midweek outside major event season. Reviews skew positive but not uniformly, with a modest value score relative to smaller guesthouses nearby, the trade-off for the amenities and the address.
